Back to real life

It was not a perfect trip, but it was a trip that ended when it was supposed to, as my flight landed in Boston yesterday afternoon.

I was slated to take off from Milan at 11:35 a.m. yesterday and then transfer in Paris with about an hour and a half between flights. However, we were late taking off in Milan, as the plane arrived there late, so we landed in Paris about 15 minutes before we were supposed to start boarding the other plane. If you know anything about the Paris airport, you know it is huge and there's trains and shuttles to get you from one terminal to another. We landed in one terminal and had to get to another and I don't think I have walked as fast as I did through that airport in a long time. Luckily, there was a line for "short connection" at the passport control center and we did not have to go through security. I made the connection and we left Paris a little bit later than we planned, but not much.

The seven-hour flight from Paris to Boston was pretty normal. I decided to watch White Lotus season one on the plane and there was just enough time to finish the entire season on the flight. We landed a little after 4 p.m. in Boston and with the short connection in Paris, I wasn't sure my luggage would arrive either. However, a young woman I was waiting in line in Milan with got on the plane in Paris after me and said she got a notification that her bag was on the flight, so I was optimistic and sure enough, it popped out of the luggage carousel and it was off to the parking garage.

Thankfully, I had parked in a lower level of the garage so there wasn't two feet of snow on my car and I headed north, but not home. After a stop for some dinner in Salem, I continued on to Bedford for the Division III boys' basketball semifinals, with Gilford taking part in the 7:30 p.m. game (that's 1:30 a.m. according to my body at the time). Gilford won to move on to the finals and from there, I headed on home, getting in around 10:30 p.m.

My wonderful landlords had cleared out where I park my car and had cleared the snow from my walkway, which was greatly appreciated. I got everything inside and crashed, but come 5:30 a.m., my body was wide awake (after all it was 11:30 a.m. in my mind). I got up and eventually headed to the office to get things straightened out and set for the rest of the week.

With two more semifinal games tonight, it will be a long day again, but that's pretty normal anyway. And tomorrow morning it's back to making donuts. After all, Los Angeles is two years away.

Made it back to the office for the first time in three weeks this morning.
